Zinc anodes are also parts that need to be replaced from time to time.
An anode protects the drive and propeller against galvanic corrosion due to the current generated by the movement of the vessel in the water.
This current causes corrosion that damages the propulsion, propeller, rudder and mountings through the hull if a zinc anode were not fitted.
If 50% or more of the anode is eaten away by corrosion, it must be replaced, otherwise it will no longer provide adequate protection.
The anode must not be painted and it must be mounted in such a way that there is good contact between the anode and the surface to which it is connected.
