Volvo Penta IPS900E: The All-Electric Future is Now
Volvo Penta is taking a revolutionary step toward emission-free propulsion. With the introduction of the fully electric Volvo Penta IPS900E – available from late 2025 – a new generation of electrified IPS propulsion systems begins.
Electric IPS drive up to 4,5 MW
The new electric line starts with the IPS900E (up to 515 kW) and will gradually expand to the full IPS range, with outputs ranging from 220 kW to 1,1 MW per drivetrain. In a quad configuration, this increases to as much as 4,5 MW.
The electric motor is directly coupled to the IPS drivetrain and is available in Twin, Triple or Quad configurations, depending on the vessel type and the desired power.
✔ Full integration, maximum performance
The electric IPS is not just a diesel engine replacement: it is a fully integrated solution designed for power, precision and durability.
Suitable for pleasure craft and commercial shipping
Thanks to its modular design, the new electrical system is suitable for a wide range of vessels – from yachts and passenger ships to workboats and patrol vessels.
Users benefit from the well-known advantages of the Volvo Penta IPS system:
- Forward-facing propulsion for optimum efficiency
- Superior maneuverability
- Full integration with Electronic Vessel Control (EVC)
- Premium features such as joystick control, Dynamic Positioning System (DPS), Autopilot and Assisted Docking
Complete “Helm to Prop” Concept
Just as with its current drivetrains, Volvo Penta also offers a complete "Helm to Prop" concept for its electric IPS solutions. This means a single point of contact for the entire propulsion system – from helm station to propeller – including design, integration, and support.
This involves close collaboration with dedicated external partners to ensure a seamless experience tailored to your vessel and intended use.
